I was recently awarded the Grinnell College, Lori Ann Schwab '95 Alumni Grant for a screen printing project at LNCS Keewaydin Community School where I taught elementary art until 2022. This grant provided funding for a poster project centered around equity as a concept and practice among children in grades 2-5. I asked the kids what this meant to them, considering the events in Minneapolis surrounding George Floyd's and Duante Wright's deaths, and continued racial injustice that seems to permeate this city and country.

I completed work on illustrating a historical fiction novel about Lt. John Fox, an African American WWII war hero: Lt. Fox's Resurrection by Bruce R. Fehn (Professor Emeritus at Univ. of Iowa, College of Education). Lt. Fox died a hero fighting for the Allied forces in Somocolonia, Italy, in 1944, when he sacrificed himself to save his fellow troops and local villagers by giving the order to shell the German surrounded tower while he was stationed inside.
